The museum closed in March 2020, as Ararat Rural City Council temporarily closed all its non-essential outward facing services.
The museum began holding pre-booked tour groups once more on Monday, March 1.
Ararat Rural City Council chief executive Dr Tim Harrison said early reception to the museum reopening had been positive.

"During this time there has been a total of 1 group with 24 visitors, with 6 other groups booked over the next 6 weeks," he said.
Dr Harrison said ensuring people's safety, and competing priorities had necessitated the museum's prolonged closure.
Throughout the pandemic, the availability and safety of volunteers has been the top priority of council," he said.
"We will continually reassess our ability to extend operations as the COVID-19 situation becomes clearer.

Ararat Rural City Council is working closely with Grampians Tourism to attract people to the region following the COVID-19 lockdowns.
"While Gum San plays a role in our tourism strategy, the uncertainty of the COVID-19 environment has decreased demand for the attraction and our ability to roster volunteers into the attraction safely.
"Further decisions about an extension of opening arrangements will be made by Council as the COVID-19 situation becomes clearer."
