Ararat Rural City Council has announced construction has commenced in Maroona to reconstruct Helendoite Road from the narrow seal at Coopers Road to Rockies Hill Road.

The $1.4 million project includes the reconstruction and widening of 2.6km of road to greatly increase safety of all motorists in the area and improve productivity of the heavy transport industry.
Council chief executive Dr Tim Harrison said motorists would "greatly benefit" from the Heledoite Road upgrade.
"Motorists who use rural roads, whether for business, travelling to a sporting event or a school bus will greatly benefit from the upgrade," he said.

He said the major construction project would increase safety and productivity for the agriculture industry.
"Council maintains a vast rural road network of over 2,000km and rural roads like Heledoite Road are vital first and last-mile routes for agricultural freight," he said.
"Helendoite road will be heavily used for the transport of grains over the harvest season being an important connector road to Mt William Road for truck drivers to access grain storage facilities."

He said the development was in response to potholes in the road, which made it unsafe to travel at the desired speed.
"The project will reconstruct 2.6km of road, including drainage works, replacing damaged road crossing culverts and installing guard rails," he added.
"Our contractors Buildgroup Constructions PTY LTD have begun widening and carrying out road formation works this week."
Reduced speed limits and detours are in place, motorists may face a slight delay during construction.
The $1.4 million Helendoite Road upgrade is jointly funded through the federal government's Roads to Recovery program and Ararat Rural City Council.
The project is expected to be complete by January 2022, weather permitting.
