The Ararat Branch of Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation was established in February, 2002 to honour the memory of Sergeant John McNally.
Sgt McNally was the first member of the Victoria Police Force to lose his life in the line of duty in 1856.

Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation Ararat Branch president Terry Weeks said National Blue Ribbon Day provides an opportunity for the community say thank you to members of Victoria Police serve the community and to remember those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
"It was an honour to join police members from the Ararat Police Station and Mayor Jo Armstrong on Blue Ribbon Day, to pause and reflect on the sacrifices of so many," Mr Weeks said.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a small wreath laying ceremony was held at the Ararat Police Station and was attended by Terry Weeks, Inspector Jo Janes and Acting Senior Sergeant Shaun Allen, Ararat Rural City Mayor Jo Armstrong and Foundation members, family and community members.
