Council is encouraging residents to recognise individuals or groups in the greater Ararat community who have gone above and beyond in their efforts by nominating them for an Australia Day Award.
Nominations are now open, with four categories to select from: Citizen of the Year, Community Project of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year.
Each year, Ararat Rural City Council presents the Australia Day Awards to individuals and groups within the municipality, celebrating the achievements and contributions made by outstanding members in our community.
Mayor, Cr Jo Armstrong said residents are being called on to nominate unsung heroes in the community for the 2022 Australia Day Awards.
"Council is urging residents to nominate deserving community members and groups who have stepped up to support our community this year," she said.
"I know that our municipality has some incredibly dedicated and passionate individuals who continue working towards the betterment of our community and that deserves to be celebrated.
"You can help us recognise their outstanding contributions by nominating them for one of four Australia Day Awards."
Award recipients will be announced at the annual Australia Day celebrations on 26 January 2022 at Alexandra Oval Community centre, Waratah Avenue, Ararat. More details on this event will be released closer to the date (subject to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions).
