Despite the obvious challenges, on Tuesday evening, the Mininera and District leagues hosted an online meeting to determine what the future of their 2021 season looks like.
After the meeting, the leagues announced to clubs a series of plans and policies in place to try and finish the season.
The leagues said they had determined the following:
- The clubs want a week of training before playing finals.
- Victoria must be out of lockdown by September 25, or there will be no finals in 2021.
- The grand finals should be played on or by Saturday, October 9.

The leagues are also investigating the possible rules and options about playing matches on or around AFL grand final day.
In announcing the plans to the clubs, the leagues said, "we are facing a very difficult situation which is constantly changing."
"If we can commence by Saturday, September 11 we can achieve these goals.
"Obviously, we are hoping to get going as soon as possible, but we are in the hands of the government and every week is different.
"The Board thanks you for your understanding and patience during these difficult and frustrating times."
