Two inmates have been taken to hospital after a brawl broke out at the Hopkins Correctional Centre in Ararat on Thursday.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said three inmates aged 27, 25 and 24-years-old sustained facial injuries in one of the units about 8.45am on Thursday August 12.

Two of the men were transported to hospital with serious injuries.
The spokesperson said four men aged 35, 34, 29 and 28-years-old were assisting police with their enquiries.
The exact circumstances of the assault are unknown, with Northern Grampians Crime Investigation Unit detectives investigating the alleged assault.
A Department of Justice and Community Safety spokesperson confirmed the incident and said one prisoner had been airlifted to a Melbourne hospital for treatment.
"There was an incident at Hopkins Correctional Centre between a number of prisoners," they said.
"One prisoner was airlifted to Melbourne and one was taken by road ambulance to Ballarat yesterday (Thursday) morning.
"A third prisoner was taken by non-urgent road ambulance to Melbourne last night.
"Two of the men have since been released from hospital.
"Other prisoners were treated on site.
"Staff responded immediately to the incident, with one staff member sustaining minor injuries."
All prisoners involved in the incident have been separated and prisoner movements were restricted on Thursday.
