The Ararat Redbacks opened their 2019-20 CBL season with a four-point victory against the Millicent Magic on Saturday night.
A 30-point haul to Dj Woods guided the Redbacks to an opening-round 89-95 win against their South Australian opponents.
Supporting Woods was Josh Fiegert, adding 28-points to the team's tally.
Fiegert opened the Redbacks' account with a three-pointer, backed up with another from Jason Cameron.
The shoot out came on fast, the Redbacks found themselves 30-13 at quarter time.
"The game was a team effort," coach Marcus Jenkins said.
"Everyone played the role I asked of them - which I'm really pleased about."
Up by 25 points at half time, fans were waiting to see if the "new look" Redbacks were able to come out firing in the third, something they lacked last season.
The players were able to extend the lead out to 29 points early in the third before Millicent tightened up the defence and shut the scoring down.
At three-quarter time the Redbacks managed to find some composure and pushed their lead back out to 25 points.
There were nervous moments in the last as Millicent didn't take their foot off the pressure. In the last few minutes of the game, Magic got within reach, only three points separated the teams.
"We were slow to react and they tightened up their defence in that second half," Jenkins said.
"I don't look too much at the scoreboard. I got nervous towards the end but we stuck to guns and held out.
"A couple of big foul outs really hurt us.
"Overall, it was a really good performance for the boys to see they can weather a storm the opposition puts up against us."
Baydn Cosgriff and Jason Cameron were both fouled out within minutes of each other.
