The event returns to Victoria for the first time in “about eight years”, and to Ararat for the first time ever.
“The last few years they have been in Queensland or Western Australia so we wanted to bring it home,” Scrambling Victoria president Phillip Scott said.
“The last time it was in Victoria it was in Broadford so it is great to be able to bring it to the Wimmera.
“We were going to have it in Stawell but could not get a permit from council, so we headed down the highway to Ararat.”
The championship will be held at the Ararat Motocross Track on Warrak Road, “behind the prison”.
The best motocross riders from around Australia will compete in the three-day long competition, starting on Friday and running until Sunday.
Competitors will practice on Friday, before competition kicks off on Saturday. Races will run until about 3pm on Sunday. About 75 races will be held over Saturday and Sunday.
“There will be different bike capacities and age groups competing,” Scott said.
“It is the top competition for this type of motocross in Australia so there should be some great riding on display.”
Stawell-based Scott said he has already heard of the positive effects hosting the championship is going to have.
“From what I have heard there are no motels left in Ararat, people are going up to Stawell to stay for the weekend because Ararat is booked out,” he said.
“It is great for local businesses in the town.”
Spectators can attend the event free of charge.
