The Eagles could have got the points in the opening round if not for better efficiency in front of goal but the team will need to put in a similar four-quarter effort this weekend if they are to get the points against an improving Bulldogs team.
Eagles coach Scott Jackson said the team’s performance last week should help morale going into round two.
“The boys definitely took a lot of confidence out of the game last week,” he said.
“They realised they can start taking it to the better team, so we will just build on that on Saturday.”
While the Eagles put in a performance capable of winning last week, there are still areas for improvement.
Jackson said the forward line will need to be improved.
“We just have to try to be more efficient in front of goal I think,” he said.
“I think we can adapt quite well on the Mininera ground despite it being smaller than Alexandra Oval and use it to our advantage.”
Consistency and team chemistry and things the coaching staff are hoping to nurture early in the season with minimal changes to the team expected for the match.
“There won’t be too many changes to the team at this stage,” Jackson said.
“At the moment there will only be late changes I expect.
“We are still trying to gel together as a team, so keeping them together and playing alongside each other is important.”
The Rovers should also go into the match confident of a win after an impressive win against Hawkesdale-Macarthur in round one.
The Bulldogs are one of the teams to watch this season with finals a real possibility for the squad.
A second win of the season would keep the home team in the top four while the Eagles will be hoping to get their first win of the year and get their first points.
SMW Rovers will go in as favourites for the match but should be wary of a much improved Eagles team. First bounce is set for 2.15pm at Mininera.
