At 11:00am on November 11 Ararat residents gathered to pay their respects on Remembrance Day.

The service was run by president of the Ararat RSL Branch Frank Neulist and was held at the Cenotaph outside the Town Hall.
The service was met with a large contingent of the Ararat community, donned with poppy pins.
Mr Neulist thanked volunteers for selling poppies through the last few weeks.
"Without our volunteers, none of this could happen and it would make it so much harder to look after our veterans," he said.

To conclude the service Mr Neulist invited Ararat residents to place a wreath at the front of the Cenotaph. Cr Jo Armstrong, Ararat RSL vice president Maurie Anderson, Laurel Ladies Tootie Murrell, Ararat Legacy, Probus Club, the SES and delegates from Ararat College each placed a wreath.
Harry Wheeler placed a wreath on behalf of his sister Laura who left for England during the war to treat injured soldiers from France.
Remembrance Day commemorates the end of WWI.
"On 11 November 1918 the world welcomed the Great War's end. The armistice came into effect at 11am that morning and for the first time since August 1914, the sound of gunfire ceased along the Western Front," Mr Neulist said.
"Today 11 November is known as Remembrance Day to honour the dead of all wars, but it will be forever associated with the end of the war that shaped the twentieth century."
