An Ararat bowler has shown off her skills with an impressive display at the Australian lndoor Bowls Victorian Singles qualifying event.
Karen Brennan, who bowls with the Chamalabar Golf Club, has returned from Melbourne after putting together a performance that almost earnt her a chance to represent Victoria.
Brennan headed to the Deer Park Bowls Club on the Saturday July 10 and Sunday July 11, where she tested her skills against state and national representatives.
After a weekend of tough matches Brennan played off for a chance to represent Victoria, where she was beaten by the barest of margins.
"Overall l was really happy with how l played for the two days," Brennan said.
"It was great playing some different players on the lovely indoor carpet at Deer Park.
"It was a great experience and l have drawn a lot of positives from playing in the event."
To start the tournament, players were split into 10 sections with three players in each. The format was sets-play, best of two sets of 9 ends with a three-end tiebreak if one set all.
In Brennan's section she competed against a bowler from Rosanna B.C first, winning in straight sets.
In her second match-up Brennan faced up against a state representative from Yarraville-Footscray B.C, completing another straights sets win in a close battle.
The two wins earnt Brennan a trip back to Deep Park on Sunday to compete in the knockout rounds having won her section.
In the first knockout round, Brennan played another state over-60's representative and skipper, from Yackandanderah B.C, once again winning in straight sets.
The third win of the weekend earnt Brennan a final play-off for a qualifying spot to represent Victoria at Tweed Heads in August.
In the match-up Brennan played against her good friend and state over-60's representative, Veronica Kelly from the City of Geelong B.C.
The match was tense and tight, with each player claiming a set before a three end tie-break was needed to separate the pair.
Even with the tie-break, the pair could barely be split, as Kelly edged out Brennan, three shots to two.
Next up for Brennan is the Ararat Setsplay Pairs in August and then the Bendigo Ladies Classic Pairs in September, where she will pair up with Australian lndoor Bowls Victorian Singles qualifying event rival, Veronica Kelly.
