Ararat Rural City Council chief executive Dr Tim Harrison said this project is one of many upgrades to be delivered this year.
"Maintaining local roads, improving access and connectivity is a top priority for council -- we're continuing to forge ahead with important road safety improvements," Dr Harrison said.
"Our road network spans over 2350kms across our municipality, more than half of these are gravel surfaces.

"Across the municipality, we have put resources towards seals and re-seals that make a big difference for residents and freight vehicles, leading to an increase in efficiency and safety for all road users."
He said the Kennel Road intersection upgrade was another example of the ongoing commitment to improving important roads for residents.
"Though a bell mouth at the entrance gives motorists better visibility of traffic, the existing gravel pavement fails to address the traffic load it carries off the Western Highway onto Kennel Road," Dr Harrison said.
"Sealing this junction prevents gravel from being carried out onto the highway and stops potholes from forming on the edge of the highway seal."
Dr Harrison said by focusing on shovel ready projects, council will be able to deliver infrastructure and more jobs in the community.
"Smaller projects like this one matter, each one of them provides an opportunity to make our roads safer, create local employment and keep the economy going after a tough year," he said.
