Ararat's Haylee Crispe is among the people looking to make a difference in the fight against cancer this month, as she takes part in the Cancer Council's Australia's Biggest Morning Tea fundraiser.

The initiative involves people across the country hold morning tea fundraisers, with all the proceeds going to Cancer Council's research, prevention, support programs.
It is Ms Crispe's first year holding the event. She said she was motivated to do so due to the effect of cancer on her family and friends.
"My nan had breast cancer and one of my husband's closest friends recently passed away from cancer," she said.

"When I saw Australia's Biggest Morning Tea pop up on Facebook I thought it would be a good idea to hold it and have a family and friends get together to try and raise a little bit of money. Any amount is better than nothing."
With the help of her sister, Tiffany Gallagher, Ms Crispe has already reached her initial fundraising goal of $100.
Ms Crispe said she was aiming to raise awareness as well as funds and help foster a culture of kindness.
"I'm just trying to get it out there a bit, just general cancer awareness, it affects so many people," she said.
"I would like to inspire my children to give back to the community and teach them the importance of giving, espescially to companies like the Cancer Council that provide vital cancer research, support services, prevention programs, and advocacy."
On average 89 Ararat Rural City residents are diagnosed with cancer each year, while 36,000 people are diagnosed statewide.

Cancer Council Victoria head of fundraising Lyrian Fleming-Parsley said the state's emergence from lockdown made this year's event particularly timely.
"We know that many people within our community are feeling isolated and alone at this time, especially after a challenging year," she said.
"Australia's Biggest Morning Tea provides an opportunity to connect with loved ones in a safe way while raising funds for a good cause."

The official day to host a morning tea in 2021 is Thursday, May 27, however, Ms Crispe is holding her event on Saturday, May 29, with participants able to register to host a morning tea any time throughout May or June.
