It was a cool morning, with just enough rain to wet the paths, but that couldn't stop hundreds of residents of Ararat and surrounds from turning out to pay their respects to those who have fought for our nation.

Many people gathered at the Ararat Cenotaph as a march made its way down Barkley Street.
The March was led by the Ararat City Band as veterans and their family members walked down the street to the tune of Waltzing Matilda.
Returned veteran Len Spong, who has lived in Ararat for 20 years was part of the march and said the day is a "sombre" on for him.

"We come every year since we have lived here and I believe every service man should," he said.
"I lost quite a few friends when I was on duty during peacetime and so I feel it is our duty. It is the least we can do.
"The day is quite sombre. It is a day to remember fallen soldiers and fallen friends.
"And you think and you look at some of these wars and you have to ask; were they worth it?"
Many community groups and organisations laid wreaths at the Cenotaph with Ararat College school leaders reading The Ode.
