The restrictions of COVID-19 forced the cancellation of the annual Grampians Grape Escape earlier in 2021, but winemakers have come together to organise a different weekend of events.

The Grampians Wine Weekend Pop-up and Barrique Auction will be held on Saturday May 1, with other special wine events over that weekend.
Grampians Grape Escape begun in 1993 and has been forced to be canceled for 2020 and 2021.
But the a series of Grampians business owners have come together to organised their own events at a pop-up on the Halls Gap Oval for the inaugural Grampians Wine Weekend.
Grampians Tourism chief executive Marc Sleeman said the event was important for businesses and winemakers in the region.

"The Grampians Wine Weekend is a welcome addition to the Grampians regional event calendar and a brilliant showcase of our fine local wines, exquisite scenery and our continued commitment to community and sustainability," he said.
Grampians Winemakers president Damien Sheehan also said the May weekend would be the perfect time for visitors to taste the region.
"The Grampians Wine Region is known world-wide for its cool climate peppery shiraz and this upcoming weekend is the perfect opportunity for everyone to experience all that is great about the region," he said.
Grampians Wine Cellar owner Simon Freeman said his business would be hosting be events on Friday April 30 and Saturday May 1 where guests would be accompanied by three of the best winemakers in the region, who will present some of their best wines.

"For me they're important (events) because they allow us to be open and allow us to give people the chance to explore the wines of the region," he said.
"It will also allow people to have the experience they might get at Grape Escape, and give them an opportunity to meet the winemakers."

The Grampians Wine Weekend is a free entry event with the Barrique Auction conducted at 2:30pm on Saturday May 1. Member wineries will be holding other special wine events throughout the weekend.
