A single vehicle accident occurred on the outskirts of Ararat along the Western Highway on Friday afternoon.

Victoria Police stated they were still trying to learn the exact circumstances of the accident.
"It's believed the driver of a silver Subaru wagon had a medical episode and crashed into a tree on the Western Highway about 1.30pm," they said.

"The driver of the vehicle, a 91-year-old Mt Eliza man, was taken to hospital by ambulance paramedics with serious injuries.
"The passenger, a 75-year-old Mt Martha woman, was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
"Police are continuing to investigate the exact circumstances of the incident."
A CFA spokesperson said the accident was briefly attended to by the Ararat Brigade.

"At 1.34pm the CFA responded to reports of a motor vehicle accident on the Western Highway in Ararat," they said.
"We had one CFA unit from Ararat attend and we issued a stop to the incident at 1:50pm. Police and Ambulance Victoria were on the scene at that stage and took over."
