The death of a motorcyclist has slowed traffic to a standstill on the Ballarat bound lanes of the Western Freeway.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash which occurred in Rockbank this morning.
Emergency services were called to the Western Freeway at Leaks Road to reports a motorcycle had crashed into a barrier about 11.50am
The motorcyclist, who is yet to be formally identified, was treated by first responders but sadly died at the scene.
The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be determined and police are speaking with a number of motorists who were in the vicinity of the scene at the time of the crash.

At noon VicRoads reported All outbound lanes closed between Troups Road North and Leakes Road, due to the incident.
It recommended outgoing drivers follow the direction of emergency services and use Greigs Road or to consider taking the earlier exit at Hopkins Road instead.
