The centre has a limit of 10 people per space, with a capped limit of 20 people in the whole facility.
Ararat Rural City Council chief executive Dr Tim Harrison said bookings were essential due to the limited space.
"We're working to ensure that the booking system is as equitable as possible, however it is best to call ahead of time to ensure you can attend," he said.
"It's great that we can open the Ararat Fitness Centre again. These facilities are an essential part of wellbeing for many of our community, to better both their physical and mental health, socialise and learn new skills."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Masks are also required to be worn throughout the facilities, except when swimming and when completing rigorous exercise.
Visits to the centre will be charged casually and capped at the maximum membership fee. This means that if you attend five or six times a week, you will only be charged until you reach the amount of a weekly membership.
"The decision to only charge casually during this time is because we do not feel as though it would be fair to our patrons to charge the full membership while they are limited in their access," Dr Harrison said.
Group Fitness classes are still running and a full class timetable will become available shortly.
People can book sessions and classes at the centre by calling 5352 1064.
