Mr Veale said he couldn't have visitors due to the COVID-19 lockdown, but had an 'enjoyable day' with his partner Lorna Neil.

"I don't feel 90 at all ... I can still work, drive and I have been a farmer all of my life," he said.

"The phones started ringing at 8am and were still going at 11pm that night.

"My birthday cake was made by Katrina Pianta. It was a four-layer chocolate sponge cake in the shape of a bookies bag."

Mr Veale, who has four kids and 14 grandchildren, said it has been difficult not seeing his family during the lockdown.

"We did a Zoom call on the iPad with my family. They live in Geelong, Lake Bolac and Ocean Grove," he said.

"It was probably a good thing that I was in lockdown because my birthday celebrations would have got out of hand.

"If I had a birthday party at the bowling or football club it would have been bedlam."

Mr Veale has worked at the Ararat Race Club for 57 years and said he has never missed a race meeting.

"My two daughters, Susan and Karen, had to wait until 6pm to get married because I was at the Ararat races.

"After the 50th year of working there, they named a race 'Jack Veale' after me.

"I haven't been able to work since March because the Ararat Racecourse has temporarily closed."

Mr Veale is currently living in Ararat and said he has kept busy on his farm in Lake Bolac during the lockdown.

"The farm gives me an outlet. I am also a member of the Ararat and Lake Bolac bowling club which keeps me involved," he said.

"I am just trying to enjoy myself as much as I can, while I am able to still do it."
