POLICE have called for witnesses or anyone with any information to come forward after a house fire in Ararat.

The suspicious fire occurred overnight on April 19 and into the early hours of April 20 on a property near Banfield and Barkly streets.
Ararat Detective Acting Sergeant Jason Boyd said the fire damaged the rear of the property.
He said the home was then criminally damaged inside.
The property is a rental and was vacant at the time.
Detective Acting Sergeant Boyd called for anyone who saw or knew anything to call the Ararat Police Station on 5355 1500.
