Fashions on the Field goes virtual while Wimmera race meets closed

While the horses are still on track, the public is barred from attending race meets so a resilient bunch of fashionistas have turned online to run an Australia- and New Zealand-wide Fashions on the Field.

Virtual Fashions on the Field, which started in late March, includes three rounds for women and one for men.

Each round, contestants have a week to submit photos of themselves, before a panel of judges made up of stylists, fashion bloggers, notable past winners and milliners (hat makers) review the submissions and virtually crown a winner.

Prizes include vouchers for boutique shops, milliners or beauty salons.

Horsham's Belinda Nurse is one such race-goer not willing to forgo her chance to dress up this autumn racing season.

Normally, this Easter weekend would be a full schedule of the Warracknabeal Cup on Saturday and the Stawell Cup on Sunday (not to mention the Gift).

"We've still been able to have fun at home and dress up and then each week we present our photos - do our own photoshoot at home," she said.

As opposed to Melbourne's famed Spring Carnival, outfits in autumn must reflect the season - more wool and leather, no summer outfits.

"It's a good thing to deter from what's been happening, and the isolation of having to stay home. It's great that we can still do something and have a bit of fun with it," Ms Nurse said.
