A PROMOTIONAL sign can now be erected in St Arnaud, more than a year after it became clear the Northern Grampians Shire was going to refuse it.

The major promotions sign can go up along the Sunraysia Highway, 1.1km from the city centre, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal has ruled.
Company Total Outdoor Media took the matter to VCAT before the council formally refused the application.
The initial plan called for a sign seven metres tall and 12 metres wide and the shire raised concerns about its size and prominence on a vacant industrial lot.
VicTrack also raised concerns about the sign because of its proposed distance from a nearby rail line.
VCAT initially sat to consider the matter last September but by that time TOM had revised their plans and asked for the hearing to be postponed.
The new plan calls for a smaller 5.6 metre by nine metre sign in the corner of the lot, closest to the road.
The shire's planning department supported the proposal, as did VCAT.
