All contestants spoke with both passion and conviction on their chosen topics for their initial prepared speeches.
These were followed by an impromptu round, all judged by Robyn Clelland, David Tyler and Norma Wells.
Winner was James Mullin from Ararat College with runner-up Angel Herbert-King from Marian College.
James spoke about "The Story of Migration", while Angel's theme was "The Real Heroes".
James will represent Ararat Legacy at the preliminary final in Ballarat on September 17.
If he is successful there, he will go on to the Victorian final in late October.
