Despite the sides' contrasting seasons, the two teams took the field and quickly took the game on.
The ball flew between both ends of the field, but it was the hosts who emerged in front at the end of the first quarter, 32-20.
The Roos came out firing in the second term and snatched the lead with three early goals. It was a lead that the Roos wouldn't let slip for the rest of the game.
Brad Hartigan fought hard to drag the Demons back into the contest, kicking two well-taken goals to keep the reigning premiers within three-points of Dimboola at half-time.
The Roos threatened to draw away with midfield star finding Matt Rosier finding his coach, Justin Beugelaar with ease.
Beugelaar, along with developing Roos forward Tom O'Dwyer, kicked four goals on the day.
Entering the final term 86-70 behind, the Demons quickly made things tense.
A quick restart from a free-kick ended with a Sam Bigham goal and saw the deficit drop to two-points, where it would stay for nearly ten minutes.
Dimboola all but secured the win in the 25th minute after Jayden Lehmann was caught high in a tackle 30m out from goal. The ruckman was then marched to the goal line after Horsham was penalised for dissent.
The ball sailed true and with it came the Roos' first win against Horsham at City Oval since 2002.
Meanwhile, Minyip-Murtoa was able to start the celebrations early against the Stawell Warriors, with a blistering first quarter setting up a commanding victory.
Minyip-Murtoa streamed away to lead by 39 points at quarter time, before piling on six goals to one in the third quarter to put the game to bed.
Burras' coach John Delahunty said it was a pleasing performance, particularly after last week's scare against the Giants in which they led by 42 points at three-quarter time and only won by a point.
"At half time I said to the boys I expected two solid quarters to finish with," Delahunty said.
"At times we couldn't put the Giants away last week...and it nearly came back to bite us."
Brad Inglis had the Murtoa crowd in raptures late in the third quarter, when he rolled through a left-foot snap from the boundary line for his fifth goal of the game.
Inglis turned to the crowd and gave an almighty fist pump, delighting the Burras faithful parked close to the bar.
Jae McGrath supported well in the forward 50, kicking four goals on his way to being named best on ground.
Stawell Warriors coach Damian Joiner said it was disappointing to get blown away in the early stages.
"First quarter was a massive let down," he said. "They played well, and we didn't play smart footy either, we played straight into their hands."
In other contests, Horsham Saints secured an 85-point win against the Warrack Eagles, while the Giants defeated Nhill, 107-61.
