The record is held by Campbells Creek, which one defeated Primrose 100.34 to 3.0.
But the highlight to this correspondent came after the final siren, when Western players and supporters cheered the Eagles players from the ground on Saturday afternoon. This was unique sportsmanship from an opposition team.
Thirteen players contributed to Great Western's score, with the Lions' Tiwi Island players kicking 45 goals between them.
Most community clubs in this league have been in similar situation as the Ararat Eagles and have climbed back from the cellar to be highly competitive - Great Western itself knows the feeling.
In the main game, ladder leaders Penshurst fell in against the Magpies by three points, dropping the reigning premier to sixth place. They will front third-placed Woorndoo Mortlake this week. In their first encounter, Woorndoo won by a kick at the final siren.
They will find the Magpies a determined side seeking the points this week.
Woorndoo cannot rest on its laurels after thrashing Moyston Willaura by 204 points last week.
Moyston Willaura will travel to encounter a much-improved Caramut on home soil and it should be an interesting game.
Tatyoon moved into the five after a low-scoring game against Hawkesdale Macarthur last week and are having a visit from top side Penshurst this week.
At the last outing, Penshurst ran out 46-point winners, Tatyoon have improved greatly since that game, and there's a big possibility the top side may be outclassed this week.
Glen Dunkeld blew its opportunity of making the five last weekend, going down to Lismore Derrinallum by 86 points. The Rams will obtain the points this week up against the Ararat Eagles.
SMW Rovers will travel to Lismore and the seniors will find it difficult to celebrate. But the reserves game between second and third could see the Rovers draw closer to a finals double chance.
ON ANOTHER NOTE
It amazes club football administrators how the powers to be think about the important part of the game -having enough players participating. At Padthaway, just over the border, the reserves side was lacking one player to make up a team so the game could be played. One of the leading lights of women's football in the area made herself available and both sides agreed. But the SAFL gave her a five-week penalty and the club a $2000 fine.
