Mortlake police Senior Constable Justin Rasmussen said it would be alleged the man caused damage to a woolshed when he removed the 1926 Minerva, which had been claimed to be worth $150,000.
He said the alleged offender had been interviewed over causing the damage and a brief of evidence was being compiled.
A charge of causing damage is expected to be laid.
Police will allege a chain was put around the door and the shed was then forcibly opened.
Senior Constable Rasmussen said there was a long-running civil dispute between family members over the vehicle with two parties claiming ownership.
"This issue has a long history involving a trust and I understand that civil dispute is now in the hand of solicitors," he said.
