THE Ararat Fire Brigade attended a Dawson Street residence in Ararat Friday morning after the residents reported smoke coming from their central heating unit.

Two tankers were on scene for about 30 minutes, though no flames were present.
Brigade captain Rob Starick said the residents "had done the right thing" and had the unit tested before winter.
"They had it tested but I believe it was faulty," he said.
"We're happy for people to call us when things like that happen."
