THE Lake Bolac Diner and Cafe has added a colourful addition to its walls.
A large mural depicting familiar scenes from across the region has been painted onto one of the walls on the outside of the building.
Co-owner Kathy Matthews said the cafe commissioned the mural from Glenthompson artist Gordon Wilson.
"Over the past several months Mr Wilson has been working on the mural," Ms Matthews said.
"I always wanted a mural for the Lake Bolac. I think it enhances the town and helps bring in tourism."
The inspiration to commission the mural came after Ms Matthews visited another town which was filled with bright, colourful art.
"We went to a town in Tasmania that was full of murals and it was amazing," she said.
The design was the result of a collaboration between Mr Wilson and Ms Matthews, and she said she hopes it catches on in the town.
"I would love other people to get some on their businesses. It helps Mark and Kim at Country Kitchen Wok and Grill Cafe as well," she said.
"We have a tourist information across the road and people will pull up there and walk across to see it.
"It has lots of colours - it brightens everyone's day and it attracts everyone's eyes.
"The level of detail is amazing. It incorporates the Grampians mountains, Lake Bolac, and the farming with the windmill, and fishing with the boat."
Ms Matthews said there were no plans to continue adding to the diner at this stage.
"I don't think there's any room for anymore," she said. "The front is already full of signage."
