Hargreaves made the move to Lindenow, after the Baggies clinched the 2014 premiership.
"I am looking forward to coming back and returning to the club," Hargreaves said.
"The premiership in 2014 was the last game I played for the Swifts. As I get older I wasn't sure if I would ever get the opportunity to pull on jumper again. I'm pretty excited to go around again."
Whilst playing with Lindenow, Hargreaves was involved in a successful time at the club, winning the 2017 premiership and claiming the best and fairest in the same year.
"I had a few injuries last year which I was limited in and played a handful of games in the later half of the year," he said.
"In myself I think I still have two or three years left in me at the top of my game and all going well I'm hoping the Swifts is where I stay and finish out my career."
Baggies co-coach Scott Carey said excitement was building about the return of the former premiership player within the club
"Brett will be a huge inclusion for us this season and all the boys can't wait to have him back playing for us again," he said.
"He has the skills which will tie in quite nicely with the current playing group."
Carey said the former leading goal kicker for the club will add versatility around the ground.
"We needed more height around the ground - it was where we were lacking a bit last season," Carey said.

"Matt Healy was doing the majority of the ruck work around the ground by himself and it takes a big toll on him by the end of the season.
"It will be magnificent not only for him but for the team to have Brett there and chop him out and utilise them both a bit more."
"He has that winning culture and knows what it takes to win."
Carey said he is hopeful with the option of another tall forward, other team's defences could be stretched.
"We will also have Ben Martin up forward as another tall," he said.
"With the option to run extra talls up forward makes us more versatile in dry weather and complements our smaller forwards who can get the job done in the wet."
