The offender entered the first property on Preece Street sometime between 7.30pm and 9pm and took a motorcycle and power tools to the value of $4700.
Sergeant Bill Alford, of St Arnaud, said police were able to recover the items at the scene.
"The person removed the motorcycle and tools from the shed on the block and left them outside, but we believe they were disturbed and fled the scene without the property," he said.
"We, on attending there, recovered the motorcycle and the power tools."
In the same period of time, an offender entered a property at nearby McMahon Street and removed another motorcycle, valued at $6000.
The bike is a white 650cc CFMoto motorcyle with damage to one side.
"We've got some very good leads that we're following up in relation to these two burglaries, which we think are connected," Sergeant Alford said.
"We're asking the public if they see the bike, please contact Crime Stoppers or the St Arnaud police."
Crime Stoppers can be contacted on 1800 333 000.
No property was damaged.
