THE National party has confirmed that six candidates will run for pre-selection in the seat of Mallee at the 2019 Federal Election.
The party spent the weekend vetting the applicants to ensure they were eligible for election, and confirmed Tuesday morning that all were successful.
The candidates are:
- Toby Heil of Irymple
- Bernadette Hogan of Birchip
- Daniel Linklater of Gol Gol
- Paul Matheson of Mildura
- Shane McGrath of Horsham
- Anne Webster of Cabarita
A candidate forum will take place in St Arnaud on January 17, two days prior to voting.
Other candidate forums will be held in Horsham on January 16 and Swan Hill on January 15.
The Nationals State President Neil Pankhurst congratulated all candidates on putting their hands up to represent their communities.
“The calibre of these candidates is a testament to the passion and community spirit of our branch members in the Wimmera and Mallee,” Mr Pankhurst said.
“Any one of these individuals would make a great representative to continue The Nationals’ legacy in the District of Mallee.
“The candidates come from different walks of life with diverse experiences, but like all National Party members, are united by their passion for rural and regional communities.”
Preselection will take place at the Birchip Hall on Saturday 19 January.
