The brigade is planning a town tour with the man in red this Saturday December 22, and will also take the opportunity to spread a message about fire safety and volunteering.
The day will differ from previous years when Santa Claus visited the station itself and families traveled to meet him.
Brigade captain Rob Starick said this will provide greater opportunity for community engagement.
“We’ll move around so people can actually see Santa and and have photos and lollies with him,” he said.
“If people also want to talk about fires or volunteering, people can talk to us (then).
Mr Starick said the role of the Country Fire Authority wasn’t well understood in the community.
“We did a survey about 12 months ago and people thought that we were paid here, but it’s 100 per cent volunteers,” he said.
“If there’s a fire in the town, it’s all volunteers.”
As a result, the brigade is always looking for volunteers to fill a broad range of roles.
“It doesn’t have to be out there fighting fires – there are other roles,” he said.
“You can be operational or non-operational, or you’ve got the auxiliary or the junior firefighters.”
Santa will be at the following locations on Saturday:
- 4.15pm Intersection of Smith St/Fay St
- 4.35pm Wilson St (Kokoda park)
- 5.00pm Intersection of Mimosa Ave/Lowe St
- 5.25pm Intersection of Hucker St/Kneebone St
- 5.45pm Intersection of George Rd/Jenkins St
- 6.10pm Intersection of Spalding St/Pitcher St
- 6.50pm Intersection of Carey St/Bell St
- 7.10pm Intersection of Tobin St/Churchill Ave
- 7.40pm Intersection of Vincent St/Temple St
- 8.00pm Intersection of Queen St/Tatyoon Rd
- 8.25pm Intersection of Mcgibbony St/Princess St South
All times are approximate only.
In the event of a fire call, Santa will be placed into the Country Fire Authority car and returned to the fire station, and the truck will respond accordingly.
