The football department, in particular, has made changes to their overall structure with a new president and a new coach at the helm of the Mininera league club.
New president John Parsons said he was extremely happy about taking on the role.
“It’s an exciting time for myself and an exciting time for the club,” he said.
“We have an extra four people join the committee, which has made it stronger, and we have all of our netball and football coaching positions filled.
“Moyston is a little town and so is Willarua, so it’s about making sure the country towns are getting looked after.”
One of the things Parsons is looking to implement is a family friend culture.
“I’m a big believer in family,” he said.
“We’ve looked at a few different things around family and one thing that I want to do is get a kids’ leadership group happening, so they can have their own leadership group.
“So when I sit down with them as the president, I can actually find out what they want from the club and what they need from the club, so they can have someone sticking up for them and we get to know what they need as well.”
Newly appointed coach, Cam Brown, said it would be a big challenge but one he would embrace.
He said many people believed the club was in turmoil.
“I am genuinely excited. I probably have one of the hardest jobs going around in footy at the moment,” he said.
“There was speculation about whether the club was actually going to have enough players left this year to compete.”
Brown said one of the main attractions for him taking the role was helping the club through challenges.
“The only thing really made me want to sign for Moyston-Willaura was a genuine want to actually help the club,” he said.
“There was a lot of speculation around town that the club was going to fold, that they have lost everyone, that Moyston is not Moyston.
“I thought, you know what I am going to put my hand up and work for the next couple of years to put this club where it needs to be.”
Having signed a two-year deal with the club, Brown said it was not going to be easy.
But he said having people who wanted to be at the club would make it all the worthwhile.
“We are not shying away that it’s going to be a really tough year,” he said.
“This year is just going to be a building year for us a football club.
“But at the end of the day we are going to come out of it with guys that have a genuine want and desire to play for the Moyston-Willaura Football Club.”
Ross Jackson takes up the co coaching position alongside Brown, Pat Frawley signs on as the new reserves coach and Scott Maconachie is the under-16.5 coach.
The Pumas’ reserves team won the premiership against SMW Rovers while their under-16.5 football team took the top gong against Penshurst.
The senior football team finished sixth, missing a finals berth by two wins.
