In March an exhibition of members’ work was held at the Stawell Entertainment Centre for a week to start the celebrations for the club’s birthday. This was followed by another week-long exhibition at the Uniting Church commencing on the long weekend in June. This has become an annual art and photography effort showcasing work by club members and various artists around the Stawell area, while working alongside the Uniting Church congregation.
An inter-club competition between the Stawell, Horsham and Nhill Camera Clubs was held at the beginning of September. This is an annual event which allows everyone to compete with like-minded photographers on set subjects. Stawell was absolutely thrilled to have won the aggregate for this competition in their 30th year. There is a perpetual trophy given to the winning club and this trophy was made by Ian Garth, an active member of the Horsham Club many years ago. It is now named in his honour. At the end of September the Stawell Club again set up an exhibition at the annual Halls Gap Wildflower Show over that last weekend.
In October the club assisted the Stawell Agricultural Show Society by setting up and supervising the photography display at their annual show. This is always a very popular competition and once again proved to be very popular with a lot of healthy competition amongst entrants, including club members.
The aim of the club is to share knowledge and interests among the members and this is achieved with a mix of guest speakers from around Victoria and experienced members sharing their expert knowledge on specific topics. The group has a varied age demographic and all levels of experience are represented which helps to expand the interests and knowledge of all members in a fun and interesting way. The club is planning to hold a beginners introductory course next year.
