There are 100 members in the club, with the aim of the meetings being to promote the true spirit of Probus of friendship, fellowship and fun.
At the meetings, there are monthly speakers on various topics; barbecues and social days. Dining out lunches every couple of months are a popular extra activity.
A favourite with roughly a quarter of the group at any given time, are bus outings which may be day trips, such as mystery tours, or bus travel for several days.
Overall, the purpose of Probus is to advance intellectual and cultural interests among adult persons who have retired or are semi-retired from their former occupations. The club is non-political and non-sectarian, and never involved in fundraising activities.
This year the extended trips were to Gippsland in May and to the Nagambie area in October. In the past, they have been interstate to areas like Broken Hill, Tasmania and Norfolk Island. On the trips, members of Probus from other groups often come along because they may not have enough numbers in their group to make a trip viable. Husbands, partners and friends of members join in as well.
The trips are always great fun and such a varied group makes for a lot of interesting times.
Annually in April, the club has its birthday. This year the club celebrated 25 years since the group was first formed. Ten of the inaugural members who were present at this birthday meeting helped to cut the birthday cake.
The club’s next event is the December Christmas luncheon, which follows the normal monthly meeting.
