A man has been left with permanent brain damage after being attacked while walking his dog in Ararat.

Investigators have been told the 59-year-old Ararat man had been walking his dog along Barkly Street (Ararat’s main street) about 10.50pm on July 1.
He was discovered with serious head injuries by a female passer-by and was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
He spent 28 days in intensive care.
Detectives were initially unable to determine the exact cause of the man’s injuries, however now believe he may have been struck to the back of the head.
It is believed a man and woman fled the scene following the incident.
The assault has left the victim with an acquired brain injury.
Detectives are appealing for information to help identify those involved, and are also urging the person who contacted Triple Zero to come forward as they may hold vital information that could assist.
