Gerald played sport all his life – from football and cricket in his hometown of Willaura from a young age, to then moving to Ararat for work and playing with Ararat in several premierships as well as local Ararat and district clubs.
Gerald also played several games with South Melbourne, now known Sydney, where he played alongside Bob Skilton. In his senior debut he lined up on Footscray football legend Ted Whitten.
Gerald has also played for Grampians Cricket Association and holds the record of 9 wickets for 0 runs for Navarre’s A grade side. He represented the Grampians in many Melbourne Country Weeks as an allrounder.
He has also been a football umpire, officiating more than 500 games throughout various regions in Victoria.
He has served in executive positions for the Ararat and District Football Association.
