THE Ararat Musical Comedy Society has announced that Les Misérables will be next year’s production.

The society are on the hunt for cast members to bring the acclaimed performance to life on stage in June.

Returning to the director’s chair is Pam Wright, who had previously directed a number of shows including Oliver, Sweet Charity and a fan-favourite, Dusty – The Original Pop Diva

Mrs Wright said Les Misérables will be the biggest show ever staged by the society in its nearly 50-year history.

However, she said society was eager to take on the challenge because it was rare for the production to be released for community theatre. She said this makes it a ‘bucket-list’ production for most theatre performers.

“I am thrilled to be returning to Ararat Musical Comedy Society to direct Les Misérables, which has been a dream of mine for many years,” she said.

Les Misérables is wonderful production, with an unforgettable story and soaring music that will move you to tears.”

The production tells the story of a French peasant, Jean Valjean, and his quest for redemption after serving 19 years in jail for stealing a loaf of bread for his sister and starving child.

Along the way, both Valjean and a number of character are swept into a revolutionary period where a group of young idealists make their last stand at a street barricade.

Mrs Wright said a huge cast of men, women and some children were needed to make next year’s production a success. She said the society had invited performers from across the region to audition.

“If you’ve ever wanted to be a cast member of Les Misérables, now is your chance as it’s not regularly released for community theatre,” she said.

“We welcome anyone interested to get in touch, attend our information night and book an audition.”

She said anyone interested in joining the cast should email their expression of interest, past experience and vocal range to the society at araratmusicalcomedysociety@gmail.com.
