It comes after the Rats had a strong start to the season, sitting firmly entrenched in the top five with a 6-2 record.

Fisher said it was a good result for everyone involved.

“David Jennings spoke to me about three or four weeks ago about trying to get some stability in the club going into the future,” he said.

“I haven’t come up here just to be involved as coach for one year then walk away, so it is good stability for the club going forward.

“I think this is a really good football and netball club, the amount of work in the background is second to none from what i’ve seen and the question for me is why wouldn’t I sign on for next season. “The work that has been put in during the past few years and we are building on that.”

While the Rats have had a strong start to the year, now that Fisher has re-signed on plans can start to take shape for next season.

Fisher said there were some players that he will look to bring in to build on the 2018 season.

“We are already talking to some players that were probably 50-50 for this season,” he said.

He also said it was important to have the full playing group’s support before re-signing for the 2019 season.

“All our leadership group has committed to the club for 2019, pending any unexpected life changes, which was important for me,” he said.

“I wanted to make sure the playing group was behind me before I re-committed to the club.

“When you’re getting text messages and phone calls saying they are 100 per cent in, it gives you an idea you’re doing something right.”

The Rats will have this weekend off before facing Stawell in round 10.
