To break the world record the Star Party needed to look at the moon through a telescope or binoculars for 10 minutes, simultaneously with other Star Party’s held around the country.
Pomonal went the extra mile and ended up stargazing for 13 minutes, after starting early.
Everyone did really well and hung in there Pomonal Star Party host Peter Shelley said.
“It’s (the event) just pulled the whole community together, they all get into it, it’s just something that interest’s everybody,” he said.
“You walk outside and sometimes you don’t bother to look up. When you live out here, when you look up there’s just so much to see.”
“I think it (the event) does pull the community together, it’s fantastic,” he said.
The Star Party initally aimed for 25 people to be involved Mr Shelley said.
“To start with we were hoping to get 25, which was the minimum. Then we got 50 and finished up with 110,” he said.
For the event to be registered as part of the world record different people volutneered their time to involved.
“We had a couple of witnesses who scrutinised it all. We also had a couple of time keepers, a photographer, someone doing a video,” Mr Shelley said.
Attendees said they came along to be part of a world record attempt and the food.
Pomonal Primary School held a fundraiser on the night by cooking dinner. A crowd favourite was the chocolate brownies.
The Pomonal Star Party will find out tonight if they have broken the Guinness World Record for stargazing.
