It is the brain child of Nathaniel Kuchel who has competed in the sport at the highest levels in Australia and is hoping to create an annual event in his home town.
Kuchel said he tried to aim the event at a wide range of pilots with different skill levels.
“It can be both a competitive and exhibition type event but will be the last chance to try things before the Australian Open the following week in Sydney,” he said.
“I wanted to make it a bit harder, I wanted to cater for the intermediate pilots but wanted to make it harder for the more experience pilots as well.
“If people come and watch, they will see some world champions as well as some of the fastest pilots in the world.”
With the event running for the first time this year, Kuchel hopes it will grow into a bit regional event.
“In the future, we are definitely looking at introducing prize money along the way if it gets big enough in the future,” he said.
“We will have two classes which will alternate during the day with each pilot getting hopefully seven races in.”
With only a handful of events outside of Melbourne, this is a big step for Kuchel who is also hoping this event brings new people to the sport around the region.
The event will be at the Ararat airfield on April 14, starting at 9.30am and going until 4.30pm. Spectators are welcome with food and drinks available.
