Former Tatyoon Hawks footballer David Astbury paid tribute to his home town after he was part of the Richmond Football Club’s drought-breaking premiership team. He returned to Ararat in late October with the premiership cup to thank family and friends for their support.

Ararat Storm coach Krystal Cameron capped off the season on a high after she was awarded the AFL Goldfields Youth Girls coach of the year award. The honour came after she coaches the Storm to their second consecutive premiership in the Ballarat Football League.

Ararat Bowling Club player Carroll Arney had a dream start to her career, winning through to the Victorian novice titles in Melbourne.
Alice Culling continued her strong cycling form by qualifying for the Cycling Victoria Track Nationals team. Culling qualified for the team after a strong season on the track and will now have the championships to look ahead to in Brisbane during the first week of February.
Ararat sport got a boost with a $14,000 grant announced by Dan Tahen MP that will improve the facilities at Alexandra and Gordon Street Ovals. The money will provide new interchange benches at Alexandra Oval along with replacing the cricket nets and the synthetic pitch at the Gordon Street Oval in what will be a big boost for community sport.
Ballarat’s Mason Keast wrote his name into the record books, winning the 2017-18 Ararat 120m Gift at Alexandra Oval on Saturday. Keast ran off nine metres and hit the line well clear of the rest of the field to claim the title. Kate Jones finished ahead of the field in the Women’s 120m Gift, running off a nine-metre mark also. The Cooper Stable also had a strong day with Angus Burns picking up two sashes after winning the under-20 120m and the 400m finals.
Former Natimuk and Nhill coach Simon Brearley was announced as the new Tatyoon coach after Adrian Pilgrim took up a development coaching role at TAC Cup club Western Jets.
