Ararat Kings Cars’ Michael Smith said the concept was simple, with residents and businesses able to make a donation of money or presents to help those less fortunate over the Christmas period.
“It’s just a matter of bringing any toys they wish to purchase to the Christmas tree at Kings Cars at 182 High Street,” he said.
“We also take cash donations, which are fully tax deductible.
“We put them all together and on Christmas Eve we give them to the less fortunate people in Ararat and the surrounding community.”
Ararat Emergency Relief members wrap the presents and then gift them to families so that children up to the age of 14 can experience a Christmas they might not have had otherwise.
Last year Ararat Emergency Relief spent more than $4000 on the appeal and many families received hampers thanks to Ararat’s generosity, and members hope to beat that total at this year’s Christmas.
