The Gappers faced an uphill battle to prevent the home side from claiming all 10 points, with the game going the way many expected.
Tatyoon’s mammoth first innings total of 312 last weekend put them in the box seat to go into full attack mode and try to claim all 20 of Halls Gap’s wickets.
The Gappers began the second day of the two-day match in a difficult position, trailing by 291 runs with just five wickets in hand in their first innings.
Charlie McIntosh dug deep against the strong Tatyoon bowling lineup, working his way to 36 not out.
He was pivotal in taking the Gappers’ score to its total of 82 from 42 overs.
Tatyoon captain Michael Harricks finished the innings with the impressive figures of 5-9 from 14 overs.
Alex McDougall also claimed two wickets.
The Gappers were sent back into bat for a second time with things getting even worse for the young side.
First innings hero Charlie McIntosh was dismissed for a duck as Harricks and opening partner Aaron Byron ripped through the Halls Gap top order.
Jackson Thomas was the only Halls Gap batsman to crack into double digits, as the visitors fell for just 50 in 20 overs.
Tatyoon’s demolition had been completed, winning by an innings and 180 runs.
Harricks and Byron claimed three wickets each in the second innings, while Ben Deer picked up two.
Harricks said it was the efforts of his batsman last weekend that set them up in a winning position.
“We batted pretty well in first week which put us in a good spot,” he said.
“A century from ‘Dougs’ (Andrew McDougall) and a 50 from Owen (Kean) were great.
“We had a number of contributors which is exactly what we were after.
“We also bowled and fielded really well and took early wickets which is crucial.”
The outright win is Tatyoon’s first of the season, after narrowly missing out on claiming the 10 points against Navarre in the previous round.
The victory sees Tatyoon jump over Youth Club into first place on the A Grade ladder.
Both Tatyoon and the Clubbers are now level on 22 points, with Tatyoon’s big winning margin over Halls Gap placing them higher.
The Gappers are left languishing at the bottom of the A Grade ladder.
Harricks said the aim for his side is to now stay at the top.
“It is nice to be in top again,” he said.
“It has been a few years since we have been there so it is good to be back.
“We want to stay there (on top) as long as we can. Our goal is to keep winning games of cricket.”
