The Church is collecting a gold coin donation for people to walk from Green Hill Lake car park at 10.30am to a barbecue lunch at Alexandra Gardens.
All proceeds will go to the OpenDoors group that provides water and basic services to persecuted Christians in Nigeria.
Church treasurer Anita Wong said the 4.6 kilometre walk represented how far many some people had to go in order to find drinkable water.
“It might be a bit longer as we might do a detour up the main street and back again,” she said.
“It’s a gold coin donation and obviously, if you want to, you can donate more.
“OpenDoors use the money to drill bore holes and put in water pumps. The water is supplied for the whole community. All the different groups get to use the water as well, the Christians don’t keep it just to themselves.”
