The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning form much of the state today, including Ararat.
A strong cold front will move over western Victoria on Saturday evening with northerly winds strengthening ahead of it. The front will cross the State on Saturday night and early Sunday morning.
Damaging winds, averaging 50 to 60 km/h with peak gusts of around 90 km/h are possible over the far southwest late on Saturday afternoon and evening. Damaging winds are most likely over elevated areas and peak gusts up to 110km/h are possible.
Winds are expected to extend across southern and mountain districts overnight Saturday and early Sunday morning, mainly affecting elevated areas. Blizzard conditions are likely to develop over the Alpine area during Sunday with heavy snow and severe winds.
Locations which may be affected by Saturday evening include Mount William, Hamilton and Portland.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- * Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;
- * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony;
- * Keep clear of fallen power lines;
