A nine-goal opening quarter to Hawkesdale-Macarthur and a goal-less start for Great Western set the standard for the match that ended 18.20.128 to 5.5.35.
The home side continued to fight throughout the match and managed to stem the bleeding.
Inaccuracy meant Hawkesdale-Macarthur scored only two goals in each of the second and fourth quarters but the end result was never in question.
Patrick Sinnot and Charles Nield kicked six and four goals respectively in the win.
Lachlan Reichman was best on ground for the winning team.
Adam Bullock was Great Western’s best for the day.
Nicholas Dunford kicked two of the Lions’ five goals.
The Lions are tenth on the ladder and will have another opportunity for a win against Penshurt next round.
The win sees Hawkesdale-Macarthur move into fifth on the ladder, one win behind Tatyoon.
