Williamson debuted in round three against Essendon and has played every game since then, but was not named for the round 14 match due to an injury.
The 18-year-old has made a good start to the season, something that has not been unexpected.
His early season form led to him re-signing with the Blues for a further two years last week.
Carlton’s backline coach Dale Amos said the club was pleased to see the improvement from the former Rat.
"We were most excited about his run and his capacity to be able to cover the ground and also his ball use and it has been great to have someone who has come in and helped with our ball movement from the defence, as he has done,” Amos said.
"Our focus has been trying to utilise his strengths and help him to understand how he can use those to help the team along with working on the contest side of his game.”
Amos said Williamson has a bright future in the game, and the different skills he has will allow him to expand his game as he gets more experienced.
“Tom has worked really hard and invested in his game and to his credit he has been able to break into the team and he has held his spot for a while now,” he said.
“He could probably play as a winger now given he has a solid fitness base, and over time he could definitely play in the midfield but I think he is enjoying learning from players like Kade Simpson and Sam Docherty, who he is modelling his game on.
"He has had a real appetite to improve with his on field footy and off the field in things like opposition analysis and the way he goes about preparing for games.”
With tall mobile players of Williamson’s size attracting more interest from clubs, it is important to develop all aspects of his game, and not just rely on his size or running ability.
Amos said Williamson has been working closely with coaches to continue improving his game.
"He has been as impressive as any of our first year players this year,” he said.
“His height has helped, but we have just continued to work a lot on his contested marking, along with his ground ball skills which were pretty good already.
“He was physically ready to slot in with his running capacity, and he has become quite diligent with how he prepares for games which shows his professionalism.”
