The Pumas came out of the blocks strongly in the first quarter.
They were able to create many opportunities in the circle as well as apply pressure in their defence to keep the Pies from scoring freely. Moyston-Willaura led 12 goals to five.
The Pies moved Kerrie Dendle into goals and she had an immediate impact.
Shooting all seven of her team’s goals in the second quarter, Dendle worked hard to be an option in the ring whilst also providing leads in the middle third.
She was able to score more freely than any other Pies players but needed to be more accurate if the Pies were to win the match.
At halftime the Pumas led 26-12.
Playing at wing attack and wing defence, Amy Brewis was named one of the Pumas’ best players.
She opened up the court and was an important link in the team moving the ball down the court.
Melinda Beal was tight at goal keeper for the Pumas, holding the Pies shooter to just five goals at three quarter time.
Beal is a hardworking defender that reads the ball extremely well.
Pumas were leading 41 goals to 23 heading into the final quarter.
Both sides continued to move their players around as they tried different combinations all over the court.
Amanda McClelland worked hard in the midcourt for the Pies as she linked the defence and attack.
The final quarter played out in a similar fashion to the previous term, as the Pumas continued to have the slight advantage.
The Pumas went onto record a comfortable 56-34 goal win, pushing them into the top five on the ladder.
Moyston-Willaura coach Jacqui Eastick said there were some big improvements from the team since their round two win against the Ararat Eagles.
“We got off to a really good start, so I was really happy with how we began,” she said.
“The transition was much better than the previous week but there is still work to do on that at training.
“And I was very happy with the shooting efficiency during the match as well.”
The Pumas looked a lot more efficient on the court in the round three match.
Eastick said the team focused on not underestimating Wickliffe-Lake Bolac like they had done against the Eagles in round two.
“We were in a better headspace and were much more committed to the match,” she said.
“It was very important to continue playing high quality for the full game after developing the lead, especially as we come up against the tougher teams.
“Overall I am just so happy with them.”
Jacqui Scott had an ankle injury and missed the match but the club expects her to return to the court in the coming weeks.
