Captain Greg Taylor said he thought it was important to recognise the contributions the late Mr Jackson had made to the brigade.
“We were trying to work out how to acknowledge Jim and the work that he’d done, including starting the Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal in Ararat,” Mr Taylor said.
He said it was the first time, to his knowledge, that the brigade had named a vehicle after a member. The brigade voted to honour him in this way.
Mr Jackson passed away in 2015 at the age of 85.
He started The Royal Children's Hospital Appeal in Ararat in 1970 after his own daughter required specialist life saving medical treatment through the hospital.
He coordinated the appeal through the Ararat Fire Brigade for 38 years, and was closely involved for many years after handing over the reigns.
